Todays Class

Hello Bloggers,

Today we are talking about visualization.
bring more visualization tools to the class. what the media does is stereotype different races and so we think a certain race is a certain way.
Charts can be misleading.  for example: How do seasons occur?
Where can we use visualization: assessment.  show the students the visual picture and have them draw it on a test.
The Periodic Table of Visualization Methods- this is a link where you can check out different visualization methods.  Its really cool and really helpful.  Check it out!!!
Tagxedo- this is a website where you can create a picture with words around it.  check this out too.
ToonDoo- its a cool way to make cartoons online.  you can sign up for free :)
We also used Clickers :D- we used it on the macs- TurningPoint

Also my update proposal is on this link http://www.slideshare.net/underhis
www.starfall.com- also link that helps with spelling

We also had a presentation today by a classmate on ADHD.  they now classify students with ADD with ADHD and just have sub categories.
We also learned a website classed www.iknowthat.com

I also learned that there is a new ocean that was made.  Southern Antarctic Ocean.

Skype Day :)

Good Afternoon Bloggers :)

Today’s class we had a guest speaker call our professor over Skype. Our guest was Dr. Brown, she lives in Florida.  My professor knows her from a conference. She had a power point that she shared with us and she shared the information with us over Skype. Some of the information I thought was most important was

All students will have technology so the LD students will not feel different.

When an adult follows a child around, they will not interact as well as a child who does not have an LD or does not need somebody with them

Special needs teachers benefit all the students.

It is beneficial for special needs students to be in the classroom.

Provide flexible models of skilled performance- for an iPod touch/iPad

each child will get an app that most benefits them

everyone will be working on something on their iPad/iPod so they won't feel embarrassed because they are at a lower level

Bringing connections in the classroom

Things that I found interesting in Dr. Brown's power point that I downloaded on my ipod touch that were free apps were:

chemical touch- which is an electronic periodical table, it is pretty cool.

US Constitution- which shows the different amendments and a little about each one

Worldwiki- which shows all the countries flags and then a little about each country on the planet Earth

USA Presidents- It shows all the presidents up to date and more information about the president themselves.

The other apps that cost money but I still thought were cool was:

Star Walk- which shows the stars and the Consolations
and where the stars are in relation to eachother.

Formulae- is an app that shows all the math formulas that you will ever need, the subjects include physics, calculus, Algebra Geometry and many more.

Recorder- This is an app where you can record your professors or anybodys voice and you can email what you have to another person.

My Proposal :)

Stephanie Underhill
40 mins to an hour
Adding and Subtracting
Goals/ Objectives:
The Student will be able to add and subtract correctly
Rationale :
I feel that addition and subtraction are the basis of math, if this is taught correctly, these skills will be used throughout their math career as a student and will be used in higher-level math.
Medium
I will first start at the board and start by writing the numbers on the board that I would like to add or subtract.  Then I will show the students how to add not just with numbers but with symbols as well.  For example:  I will write the problem on the board 1+2=___   then under the 1 I will draw I star, under the 2 I will draw 2 stars.  I will then have the students count with me the number of stars all together.
Target Audience
         Kindergarten
Lesson ideas or lesson plans that you searched in this topic.
Teaching Strategies and Methods
Will ask the students questions along with the lesson I will teach them.  I will use the board and the computers.
Evaluation Methods: Assessment strategies:
I will give them a worksheet/homework and see how well they do.
Resources/ Credits: the print material, electronic resources, and websites you already found.
Kidspiration,

NJCCS
STANDARD 4.1     (NUMBER AND NUMERICAL OPERATIONS)
ALL STUDENTS WILL DEVELOP NUMBER SENSE AND WILL PERFORM STANDARD NUMERICAL OPERATIONS AND ESTIMATIONS ON ALL TYPES OF NUMBERS IN A VARIETY OF WAYS.

4.1.2 B.  Numerical Operations
Numerical Operations.  Numerical operations are an essential part of the mathematics curriculum, especially in the elementary grades.  Students must be able to select and apply various computational methods, including mental math, pencil-and-paper techniques, and the use of calculators.  Students must understand how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and other kinds of numbers.  With the availability of calculators that perform these operations quickly and accurately, the instructional emphasis now is on understanding the meanings and uses of these operations, and on estimation and mental skills, rather than solely on the development of paper-and-pencil proficiency.

Cup activity and more!

In class today we did an activity where there were 6 plastic cups, 1 rubber band with 5 strings attached to the rubber band.  Without talking we had to stack the cups in a pyramid.  We had to use other communications other than talking.  We looked at each other's facial expressions and we pointed to the one we wanted to move and we moved the cup together.  We all opened the rubber band and then rung it around the cup, then we all picked up the cup together then stacked the cup on top of the other ones that were already in place.  We were very successful!  It was quite fun actually.  The 5 C's that helped us get the task done was Communication, Control, Concept, Concentration, and Collaboration.

We also took a look at UDL for Life Cycle for a butterfly day 1.  I was pretty cool, it says the objectives, goals, methods and assessments.  It shows a step by step guide on how they want it to look.  The lesson goals are all listed and you can use different ways to teach this subject.  Sometimes giving choices is the best thing- thats what UDL does- it gives you choices; students feel empowered.  The website is http://lessonbuilder.cast.org/explore.php .  It is a great website! CHECK IT OUT :)

http://www.udlcenter.org/implementation/examples  This website shows/tells you great checkpoints.

cool site This is a website that my classmate showed me today.  This website shows you different lesson plans and different ideas on how to teach subject materials.  You can click on lessons and you an even get help with theme ideas.  It is a great website. Explore and Enjoy :)
